Photo from the Bill Mach Collection, FWWM.

Back in 2015, the Museum received a call from Hawaii regarding a possible donation. A woman was looking for a permanent home for photographs taken by her late father at the Walla Walla Army Air Base during World War II. Her father, William “Bill” Mach, was an official photographer there, and we received several photographs documenting the activities at the air base in the early 1940s. Many of Mach’s outstanding photos were on display during our World Wars exhibit later that year.

One of his most memorable photos depicts two female mechanics working on a plane. The photo would have been taken around 1942-44 at the Walla Walla Army Airbase. If you think you may recognize either of these women, please send us an email at info@fwwm.org, we would love to be able to document their names and their stories!
