Volunteer Opportunities
We are never so useful as when we serve others. Volunteers devote considerable time and energy helping the Museum meet its goal of preserving and sharing Walla Walla regional heritage.
You can help carry the past into the future!
Take a look at our Volunteer Handbook.

Call Don Locati (509-525-7703) or email info@fortwallawallamuseum.org if you're interested in being a Museum volunteer.

You can help by:

  • Greeting visitors and interpreting Museum exhibits to the general public and school groups.

  • Becoming a Tales o' the Trail reader; volunteers read aloud to kids ages 5-9 from books of regional historic interest and supervise a craft activity in this program generously sponsored by Baker Boyer Bank. Tales o' the Trail occurs every 2nd & 4th Sundays of the month during visitation season.
  • Volunteer at special events. Watch: 'Volunteer Emily uses sign-language for the the Pledge of Allegiance'
  • Developing school and other outreach programs. Fort Walla Walla Museum's 'In the Classrom' program attempts to reach students 5-6 times during their school years.
  • Working within the Exhibits Committee to develop, build, and install exhibits.
  • Cataloging artifacts, books, and historic photographs.
  • Assisting with membership mailings or performing general clerical duties.
  • Maintaining Museum grounds and buildings.
  • Producing contemporary and historic photographs.
  • Conducting research projects for exhibits, educational programs, and/or publications.
  • Assisting with various sewing and quilting projects.
  • Serving as receptionist at the Headquarters front desk, welcoming visitors and answering phone calls.
  • Providing guided walking tours.
  • Participate in the Living History Company or Oregon Trail Band; Living History performances occur each Sunday at 2:00pm, plus Saturdays june through August. The Oregon Trail Band plays popular 19th century music each 1st & 3rd Sundays of the month during visitation season at 1:30pm preceding the Living History perofrmance.
  • Providing Spanish-language translations for signage and publications.
